We finally made a terribly overdue visit to dear friends in Seattle. It is bad enough that we hadn’t made it there in about four years, but worse still, we missed the celebration of a significant anniversary. So a couple of days before school started, off we went, squeezing in one last get-away for the summer. At least we know enough to go in late Summer when one is as guaranteed as one can be in Seattle of clear skies. And clear skies is just what we had for four beautiful days.

As you can see from this, the first picture I took after arriving in the emerald city, the interiors aren’t bad either. That’s what you get with artist friends. In fact, the whole trip was a stunning reminder of what I miss about living here — the abundant creativity and aesthetic sensibility falling like rain, soaking everything.

I recently noticed this red Caddy in the area near my work. This is the first shot I’ve managed to get because either the location has not been good, or because I’ve been in too much of a hurry to get to work. This doesn’t really do it justice. I’m hoping to try some other approaches with it. Stay tuned for that.

Oakland Noise

Now that I’ve got your attention… Shots from a concert of sound artists at Liminal Space in Oakland last Friday. Thomas Carnacki performed a piece with video projections. Opening the evening was Zachary James Watkins, followed by Vulcanus 68. Grinding, howling soundscapes, architectural imagery, and nice little art space. I’m looking forward to next time.

I brought my camera along to a gathering of friends the other night. Since I had no tripod with me, I had to prop the camera up on some cups and other items to get longer exposures. This one, at about 1/6th of a second, was one of the more intriguing shots to result.
