Just two generations apart, my mother and my son are also 84 years apart. That’s what happens when the generations have children in their 40s. Of course, my father would have been 113 this year, so that would put him and Theo a mere 104 years apart.

If one’s parents are going to drag one all over Seattle while they live out their nostalgia for relative youth, especially by frequenting dank, hipster, second-hand shops, there could at least be a big comfy couch on which to rest.

Theo has a video project to interview somebody doing something, and to shoot each step of the process. He decided to interview me about taking photographs. This is a picture we took across the street to illustrate the process. It sort of reminds of  a cow for some reason. Maybe I’ll post the video later, when he’s all done with it.

Wait, I’m almost done…

Theo and Santa

Santa listens patiently while someone recites the entire Lego catalog, and then lists all the different Pokémon cards he needs and explains why for each one, delving into mind-numbing detail about the various types and their powers and defenses, and then…

I am about 10 DVD’s behind in backing up my photo hard drive. I have been thinking about getting around to it every now and again, but the death of my laptop hard drive shocked me into action. Once I started going back through the folders to do a light cleanup before burning to disk, I found all sorts of photos I had totally forgotten about. This was an interesting one. My mother and son in late 2009. Boy was that a tough year, but there were some sweet moments here and there.

Birthday

Happy Birthday Theo

Happy Birthday Theo

Kid turned eight years old today. It’s true what they say about it going by fast. Yes, he’s still into Clone Wars. Although, lately it’s been Disney Toontown social gaming, and now the latest is Lego Hero Factory. It’s all so much more involved than just a generation ago when we played just fine with sticks and mud and leaves. I don’t think kids around here make many mud pies anymore.

And in fact, a Wii finally arrived at our house on account of this occasion; we’ve joined the 21 century, video game addiction, and wireless connection from the TV to Netflix!

A little birthday party at the YMCA kids’ gym went well enough with only a few of injuries from which all concerned recovered relatively quickly. Although my ribs are still a little sore from being pummeled by children while trapped inside a large padded barrel. I tried the obstacle course race too, and that didn’t do my knees any good.

Nonetheless, it was wonderful day. Happy birthday little buddy.
